Hello again, hope you’ve had a good week.

We’ll dive straight into the questions…

One caller this week asked about tinting Finishing Oil. This already has an amber tint to it and will cause a slight colour change, but if you want more then a little Spirit Stain will do the job. An alternative would be to use one of our tinted waxes which are designed specifically for that purpose.

Another (common) question is whether a toy safe finish is also food safe. Not necessarily: the test for food safety is far more stringent and not only tests for different elements with lower allowable levels but the finishes are exposed to much harsher use (including contact with solvents designed to emulate contact with different foodstuffs).

Still talking about food, well sort of, we’ve been asked a couple of times lately if our finishes are vegan friendly. Setting aside the food safety issue, we were able to say that most of them don’t contain any animal products or by-products. The obvious exceptions would be WoodWax 22  (beeswax) and anything with shellac in it as this comes from the Lac beetle.
