MEET THE INVADERS!

These are the four people you need to be on the lookout for! Not that you should be scared, you just need to make sure you don’t miss them!

At Chestnut Products we work with some of the top turners in the country – in the world in fact – and we’re spoilt for choice on who to invite to our Weekender. For 2021 we’ve asked four turners from the north of England to trek down to the wilds of Kent (not that wild really!) and show their skills.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you….. THE INVADERS!

EMMA COOK

Those of you who followed the first Woodturning Weekender story just might be getting a feeling of deja vu here! Yes, it’s Emma Cook, the Tiny Turner who for unavoidable reasons was unable to attend the 2019 event. As we’ve said many times we fully support and understand that decision, so much so that we almost immediately asked her to be one of our Northern Invaders!
Emma is a very talented and gifted woodturner and carver and she loves combining the two disciplines in her work. She has demonstrated all over the UK and has also ventured into Europe and is a firm favourite with club members and exhibition goers, so we’re both happy and lucky to have her at the 2021 Weekender.
Emma will be demonstrating on Sunday at the Weekender, helping to bring proceedings to a close. She will also be in attendance before taking to the main stage and will be sharing her experience and knowledge in one of our Clinics.

RICK DOBNEY

Rick Dobney started as a hobby turner over ten years ago, enjoying the escape from his day job. He became an accredited AWGB Demonstrator and Tutor, and has been active in the North of England for over five years. He likes to turn large items, exploring new ideas and techniques, and hopes to inspire you to do the same. www.rickdobney.uk

DAVID LOWE

This is David Lowe, who will be travelling south to demonstrate his expertise at the lathe and his various methods of decoration.
David lives and works in a small village at the foot of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and is the resident turner at Snainton Woodworking Supplies. He has a particular passion for working with burrs, relishing the challenge of not knowing what he is going to find until he starts removing the bark..
David is an RPT registered turner, a seasoned tutor and an excellent communicator. He uses traditional techniques, sometimes combining them with modern ideas such as airbrushing, texturing, piercing, pyrography and carving etc.
David will be kicking off proceedings for us on the Saturday morning, setting a very high standard for the other Invaders to follow.

ANDY ROUNTHWAITE

Our fourth Invader is Andy Rounthwaite; he started turning after being diagnosed with MS and after a couple of years of hobby turning a good friend and RPT member encouraged him to go professional. He successfully studied for woodturning and teaching qualifications and was accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners within a year.
Andy loves teaching, demonstrating and turning in general. He takes commissions from honey drizzlers to house pillars, and still finds time to turn just for his own amusement as well.
Andy has been on a break from demonstrating recently but is back with a bang and we’re really pleased to have him as one of our Invading demonstrators.
Andy will be demonstrating on Sunday.

Even Invaders need a break; when the main stage isn’t in use there will be plenty more to see! Details coming soon…
