WEEK COMMENCING 11 AUGUST 2024
Hi
Phew! We’re all still buzzing from the Weekender, what a blast it was. We had a fantastic time at Springfields, and my email and social media feeds have been fairly bursting with nice comments from happy visitors. It was brilliant, if I do say so myself.
If you missed it – or want to watch it again! – you can still get tickets for the recording of the livestream. Viewers are also sending in compliments about this, it was very popular! It’s still only £25, packed full of extra interviews and demos, there’s about 16 hours of viewing there. Fortunately, you have 90 days to watch it, so you don’t have to do it all at once!
Head over to the website to order your ticket.
A couple of weeks ago, (might only have been last week, it’s been a bit busy lately, I’ve lost track!), I mentioned someone wanting to make their slide, made of veneered chipboard, slicker. For their children, apparently, but we don’t judge. I suggested wax over a sealer, and that Shellac Sanding Sealer would be easier to apply.
As this is a bit of a one-off project, they asked if the shellac sealer could also be used on other projects, in particular as a primer for repainting furniture. Yes, it can be, although as always we suggested a sample patch first, just in case there’s something odd in the paint that reacts with the sealer. It’s unlikely, but it’s always best to check.
Another question asked about a finish for a food and water bowl holder for a dog. For some dogs, bending over to eat can be a struggle, and bad for their digestion. Raising the bowls makes their life easier – and why not? How to finish it, though. It needs something that is hard-wearing, can resist water splashes, and safe enough for Fido to lick if (when!) food gets slopped over the side.
My suggestion was Hard Wax Oil. It’ll be good at resisting pretty much anything that’s thrown at it, and, whilst not proven to be food safe, it’s toy safe and I reckon that will be sufficient for this purpose. Dog food is not known for containing anything likely to draw anything out of the finish, and any food spills probably won’t stay there for long!
It’s a bit of a cheeky one to finish with this week…We were asked a while ago about fine nozzles to fit on our Superglues; could we get them?
The answer, as you’ll see, is yes. These are now available on our website, and make an ideal add-on when buying glues.
Visitors to our Weekender will have seen these nozzles already, as they were included in the Goodie Box that we gave away.
That’s everything for this week, I’ll be back again next week with more questions and answers. As I say many times, I’m only part of a team, I’ve got some great people around me making all of this happen, so to all of them, including colleagues and their partners, I’d like to say thank you again. And I’ve had some special help compiling this week’s Newsletter…
I’ll see you next week!
Terry
