WEEK COMMENCING 04 FEBRUARY 2018
Your weekly Q&A Session with Chestnut Products
Hello again! (I really want to say ‘good morning’ as that’s when this will be sent, but it’s afternoon as I write it and I know that not everyone reads this as soon as it arrives. I don’t take it personally!)
Our first question this week is about using the Gilt Creams, a regular topic; this time we were asked which of our waxes can be used to overcoat them, and the answer is any of them, the Microcrystalline Wax is the most durable if this is needed.
Sort of related to the above, we were also asked recently if wax is the only finish that can be used over the Gilt Cream and in fact our Finishing Oil and Hard Wax Oil can also be used, a little care and patience is needed if the Gilt Cream has been applied to the whole area rather than just for a ‘limed’ effect.
Finally for this week someone asked which finish to use over someone else’s stains that appeared to be white spirit based. Questions like this are always hard to answer because we can’t know everything about other manufacturer’s products, but if in doubt the acrylic finishes are usually the safest; being water based they are very unlikely to have a reaction with the stain – but always do a test piece first.
And there we have it for this week, thanks as always for reading our newsletter, have a great week and I’ll see you again next time!
All the best
Terry
