WEEK COMMENCING 24 JUNE 2018

Hey there!

Thanks for letting me back onto your computer, did you spot last week’s not-so-deliberate mistake? I meant to say that the labelling on the Microcrystalline Wax hasn’t caught up with the fact that it is now toy and food safe. Amazing how leaving out such a small word can totally change the intended meaning of a sentence!

So what have we been asked about this week?

One correspondent had bleached some wood and wanted to know the best way to finish it and keep it as light as possible. It was complicated by some of the wood also being stained with Spirit Stains (which, incidentally, he described as ‘excellent products’). He’d tried Hard Wax Oil, a particular favourite of his, but felt it darkened the wood too much. I suspect that given time it would go lighter, it takes a while for the solvent to evaporate fully, but we suggested that one of the aerosol finishes would be best, to avoid dragging the stain across, and the Acrylic Gloss Lacquer is probably the clearer of the gloss lacquers in our range.

If you follow our Facebook page you might have seen this one already, but if you don’t…
Someone else contacted us about a finish to go over oil based crayons, being used to colour some pyrographed timber. We suggested the Acrylic Sanding Sealer and Acrylic Lacquer for the same reasons as above and this week the lady concerned reported back to us saying ‘oh my goodness I can’t sing its praises high enough. The richness of the colours it has brought out on the two sample pieces I have done is absolutely amazing, no reactions with the oil finish of the crayons (which I was worried about) the finish on the wood is brilliant and lovely and glossy‘. We get lots of positive feedback from customers (and extremely little of the negative stuff) and it’s always appreciated.

And the perennial ‘what can I use on a goblet that is going to be used for drinking from’ came up again this week.  Always difficult and we tend to err on the side of caution on this one; there’s enough people out there making spurious claims and we don’t want to join that list. The outside had been coated with Melamine Lacquer and we suggested using the Microcrystalline Wax on the inside to seal it and help resist the liquid, whilst stressing the need for caution as it might not offer long term water proofing. The caller was happy with this and told us how much he loves our products, and counted up the number he had on his shelves whilst on the phone, getting to over twenty when he included the various stains.

So it’s been a rewardng week for us, we do work hard to make sure that the products we supply are the best they can be, that they do what they’re supposed to quickly and easily, and that the finish they give lasts a long time. It’s always good to have that independently verified. We’ve also widened the doors to the warehouse to allow us to get out!
But seriously, we never take your support for granted, and we intend to make sure that we always deserve it.
Sometimes it’s just nice to let you know we appreciate you too!

Have a great week

Terry
