WEEK COMMENCING 30 NOVEMBER 2025

Hi

We’re in that in-between time at the moment; we’re still busy with orders and sending out parcels, but we also know that in a week or two it’s going to suddenly go very quiet! Which is our time to have a good tidy-up in the warehouse, sort out that filing that’s been hanging around for ages, maybe even finally give the office a lick of paint… but that one normally never happens.
Whatever your plans include, I hope you’re making some!

I was asked this week about applying a second coat of Carnauba Wax, in particular using the Buffing Wheel Kit (this isn’t going to be another buffing week, I promise!)

Should the original Carnauba be abraded, or removed, or—most importantly— is there even any point applying a second coat?
I’d say there’s not really much point in applying another layer of the wax; if the first one has been done properly, you’re not going to make much (if any) difference to the shine, so why bother?

If you really want to do this, a second coat can be applied directly over the original one, there’s no need to cut it back or remove it. If you really must!

Another question related to an old piece of furniture. It had been bought for renovation; it wasn’t in bad condition, but had obviously come from the house of a smoker, and smelt strongly of cigarettes.

Is there a finish that would seal the smell in? I’m not aware of anything that will do the job, would a spray with Febreze work, I wonder?

Anyway, the only suggestion we could make was to move the item outside (but under cover) with a good air circulation, and let nature take its course.

Finally, a strange little question; we had a call asking if we had any Black Friday deals. It’s really not something we do. What we do, though, is try and offer the best prices we can all year round. I hate seeing items listed as ‘30% off’, or ‘Save £200’—especially if I’ve already bought them at the original price! I know the sellers are still making a good profit; if they can afford to cut the price like this, why not do it for the rest of the year? Is it just greed?
And, of course, I’m not so naive to believe that the ‘deals’ are always what they claim to be, there are a lot of misleading promotions, I’m sure.
There are legitimate reasons for sales (end of lines, slow-moving stock etc.), but we prefer to give the best prices we can, all the time.

It’s official! A date has been set for this year’s Twixmas Quiz! Join us on 29 December on YouTube for some post-Christmas fun, and a chance to exercise your brain cells after all that turkey!

I hope you’ll be there!

All the best
