NyWeb has evolved

June 11th, 2009

Over the years, we have had a few comments that the Grey NyWeb was sometimes a little difficult to tell apart from the Green NyWeb, especially when the light wasn’t perfect and the pads were still wrapped in clear film.
Thus, the colour of the grey has now been changed to Orange as you can see above; there certainly shouldn’t be any mistaking them now!
Nothing else about the product has changed, the grit is still the same, the size is the same and so is the price.
‘Once an orange, always an orange’ - or maybe not in this case.
(Yes, that’s obscure, top marks if you know what we’re on about!)

Tung Oil now available

July 31st, 2008

We introduced Finishing Oil, followed closely by Lemon Oil, to our range several years ago. We’ve been regularly asked for Tung Oil as well and have now introduced this into our range.
Tung Oil, also sometimes called China Wood Oil, is produced from the seed taken from the nut of the Tung Tree and dries to a very hardwearing, water resistant finish.
Most finishing oils are based on tung oil, this pure form has no solvents or driers in it; this makes it a lot more user and environmentallly friendly although it does increase the drying time considerably, making it slightly less attractive if you’re in a hurry!
Our Tung Oil is hitting shops already, so you should start seeing it appear soon. Just look out for a tin with Tung Oil written on it! There’s a picture above if you need a visual clue!
The RRP inc VAT is £6.75 for 500ml and £11.95 for 1 ltr.

Charity Update

July 11th, 2008

This blog is in danger of becoming Charity Central, but it’s a risk we’re willing to take at the moment.
First of all, well done to the team from Axminster for successfully pulling off their bike ride. I couldn’t find mention of it on the site but the ride was 100 miles, quite an achievement.
I’m told that overall the ride raised over £35,000 with Axminster contributing well over £1,500 to this worthy total.

Axminster Staff Outing

June 26th, 2008

We always try to play fair and to not give any of our customers preference over another. We’re always happy to promote open days and shows that we’re taking part in and things like that, but this is a bit different.
The intrepid guys at Axminster Power Tool Centre in Devon have organised a bit of an outing for themselves and it seems worthy of bringing to your attention.
This is being done by the team at Axminster to support one of their team, if you’ve dealt with Axminster in the past and had good service from them, this could be a way of quietly saying ‘Thank You’.
I’ll say nothing more than to point you in the direction of the website and let you make your own mind up:

Cyanoacrylate Superglues now available

June 9th, 2008

New Superglues!

For many years we’ve been asked about Cyanoacrylate Superglues, which are very popular with woodturners. After some extensive and time-consuming trials to make sure we got these products right, we’ve added them to our range as you can see from the above.
These adhesives are made in the UK to the highest specifications and are available in three carefully chosen viscosities:

Thin - with capilliary action for fixing small cracks in timber
Medium - multi-purpose for holding pieces and fittings in place
Thick - for gap filling and sealing larger cracks

The glues are 20g size and retail for £2.75 inc VAT and are now available.
We will be adding an Accelerator and a De-bonder shortly, plus larger sizes of the glues soon after.

Foam Brushes - Packaging Upgrade

June 2nd, 2008

We’ve been bringing over the Foam Brushes made in the USA for some years now - yes, they are the ones that Norm uses- and felt it was time that they had a more glamourous look. They’ve always been difficult to display and we’ve seen some very innovative ideas for doing so over the years, so we’ve made things easier and you should start seeing them in shops soon.

Brush Packs

As you can see the brushes are now pre-packed, as follows:

5 x 25mm - RRP £3.00
4 x 50mm - RRP £2.50
3 x 75mm - RRP £2.50
2 x 100mm - RRP £2.00
Starter Pack - one of each size brush RRP - £3.00

The packs sell for between £2.00 and £3.00 each, making them great value for money and giving a cost saving over buying them individually.
Single brushes are still available but they will be phased out from September 2008.
